Maple Reception

A phone receptionist for custom cake makers in Ontario

Complete cake orders, collected while you bake.

When you can't get to the phone, Maple answers in your bakery's name. It asks one short question at a time, reads the whole order back, and sends it to you by text. You quote, approve and confirm it yourself.

The phone always rings when the buttercream is just right.

You can't pick up with a piping bag in one hand and the turntable spinning. Maple can. Here's a Tuesday afternoon with it.

  1. You're piping the last row of rosettes on a wedding cake.

  2. A customer calls about a birthday cake. Maple answers in your bakery's name.

  3. The whole order is on your phone: date, servings, flavour, design, the writing and any allergies.

  4. You call back at the time you chose, quote it yourself, and decide.

A sample call

Calm, careful, and one question at a time.

MapleHi there, thanks for calling Butter & Bloom Cakes. Maya can’t pick up right now, so I’m Maple, her automated assistant. Just so you know, this call is transcribed. How can I help?

Caller"Yes, a birthday cake for my daughter. She's turning seven."

MapleLovely. What date do you need it for?

Caller"Saturday the fourteenth. Could it say Happy Birthday Saoirse?"

MapleLet me spell that back: S-A-O-I-R-S-E. Is that right?

Caller"That's it. Oh, and one of her friends has a tree nut allergy."

MapleI've noted your allergy information word for word and will pass it to the baker. The baker will confirm whether they can accommodate it.

A shortened example. On a real call Maple also asks about servings, flavour, design and a callback time, then reads everything back.

How it works on the phone

The questions you'd ask, in the order you'd ask them.

You forward the calls you don't answer. Maple picks up, gathers the details a custom order needs, and reads them back so the customer can fix anything before it's saved.

Fair questions

What bakers want to know before trying it.

What does it say about allergies?

It writes down exactly what the customer said and flags it in red for you. It never promises anything. It says: I've noted your allergy information word for word and will pass it to the baker. The baker will confirm whether they can accommodate it. The decision is always yours.

Do I have to change my number?

No. Your customers keep calling the number they know. Kevin sets up a Maple number for your bakery, and you forward the calls you don't answer to it with a one-line code from your phone carrier. We test it together before it goes live.

Will it quote my prices?

Only prices from your own price list or website. If something isn't listed, Maple tells the customer you'll go over pricing on the callback.

Does it take deposits?

No. Maple never takes payments or card numbers. Quotes, design approval and deposits stay between you and your customer.

What if I'm already booked that week?

Maple knows the notice you need, your blocked dates and your weekly capacity. A short-notice or over-capacity request is still taken politely and flagged, so you can say yes, suggest another date, or pass.

What if it mishears something?

Maple reads the whole order back before the call ends, and the customer gets a text summary to check. You see everything before you quote, and nothing is confirmed until you mark it confirmed.

Will it sound like a robot?

Call the sample bakery and judge for yourself. It speaks calmly and asks one short question at a time, like a patient person at the front counter.

Does it speak French?

Maple takes calls in English only.

I built Maple for cake makers who would rather be baking than chasing missed calls. It doesn't run your bakery. It just makes sure the order is written down properly and waiting for you.

If you'd like to try it, write to me at hello@maplereception.com and I'll set it up with you.
